Instructor - Paul Burt, Cert Ed.

Paul has been teaching personal safety and self defence for the last fifteen years.
His initial training was in Karate (Ishinryu) and Jujitsu (Jikishin). In the early 90’s he worked with
British Special Forces qualifying as an Unarmed Combat Instructor, enhancing his skills in teaching such subjects as knife defence, ground work, and empty hand techniques.

In 1995 he became one of the founding Officer Safety Instructors for the Metropolitan Police Service, which incorporated skills he’d already been teaching and expanding on areas such as street awareness, risk assessment, and dealing with stress situations.
Paul has since been teaching these skills to officers from specialist units, continually keeping his training up to date by working with various agencies throughout the world.

In 2005 he founded The Defence School allowing him to teach personal safety and self defence to members of the public. He is registered as a self defence instructor with the Self Defence Federation.

Paul is also a fully qualified First Aider and teacher, having qualified with City & Guilds (7307) for teaching adult learners, and with Greenwich University for his Certificate in Education.
